Not sure how I missed this before, but here’s a beautiful new track by The Irrepressibles called ‘Arrow’
Apples…I’m Home - ‘Last Week’
I played a gig on Sunday with my friends in Apples…I’m Home. They wanted an extra guitar / 3rd harmony, so up I popped! Here’s a video from the gig. It was in St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London—hence the swirly acoustics!

Willis Earl Beal - Same Old Tears
Sure there’s hype, but you can’t deny he’s pretty amazing in that video. Going to see him live on 13th March with a bunch of the blues dancing folks. This could be an awesome night….
Phantom Limb - ‘The Pines’ (In Session for BBC Introducing in Bristol)
If you’re got Spotify, check out their Live In Bristol album — flawless, soulful performances!
Looking forward to seeing these guys and Ahab at the HMV Next Big Thing gig on Febuary 10th
Here’s a fun video of Walk off the Earth covering Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Nicely done!
LISTEN to the original
Ahab - ‘Wish You’
Saw these guys supporting Bellowhead recently and I was seriously impressed! Tight harmonies and lovely Americana songs. Definitely worth a listen.

What makes me buy music…
Read this piece on The Guardian’s site: ‘Washed Out: “I wish I could have a 9 to 5 life”’ after seeing the word “chillwave” and thinking it had to be a pretentious, made-up genre.
Looked up Washed Out on Spotify so I could hear what exactly “chillwave” was
Found ‘Eyes Be Closed’ to be a very beautiful piece of music, so listened through the rest of the album…
Looked the album up on Amazon and found it for less than £8. Decided as pay day has only just happened that buying it was a good idea.
Didn’t go to their site, didn’t care about who they are, didn’t check their social networking pages, didn’t check reviews. Sometimes all you need is to know the context of the music and a nudge in a direction to listen to it and for it to be cheap enough for spontaneous purchase.
I love discovering music.
(Also, I am still not convinced by “chillwave”, but my only alternative would be “ambient whooshy music” so I won’t criticise…)
Kickass Cover of the Day: Nottingham beatboxer THePETEBOX covers The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind” with nothing but a guitar, his voice, an RC-50 loop station, and a Kaoss Pad for the finishing touches.
I am Jack’s pleasant surprise.

Squeeeeeee new Blackfield music! LOVE it. Not so sure about the ‘Money For Nothing’ style video though?
New album out next week (hurrah!) and going to see them live on 8th April, supported by the also-awesome The Pineapple Thief (who also seem to have the same style of video going on there…watching….Aww Punch without Judy! That’s sad!)
James Blake - Limit To Your Love
Beautifully atmospheric music, bizarro video
